  • Big Band swings into arts centre

    Ian Dipple

    22 January 2008

A GOLDEN era of Big Band music swings into Evesham Arts Centre next month.
The John Wood Big Band takes to the stage at the Victoria Avenue venue on Saturday and Sunday February 2 to 3 to delight audiences with some of the best of swing music.
Musical director John Wood attracted 20 fantastic music and singers to form the band through his connections with Bretforton Silver Band, Evesham Operatics and the Billy Davis Band.
It was originally brought together to take part in the popular Bretforton Proms, where they received such an astounding response from the audience they decided to stay together.
Stars such as Michael Buble, Robbie Williams and Rod Stewart have helped revive the popularity of swing music in recent years and brought it to the attention of a new generation.
Fronted by fabulous singers The John Wood Band will perform music from some of the genre's great artists including Glenn Miller, Count Basie and Frank Sinatra.
Mr Wood said: "This year's concert promises to be the best yet with some fantastic arrangements of this fabulous music and is sure to include all your foot-tapping favourites."
Tickets cost £10 and can be booked from Evesham Book Centre or from Mr Wood on 01386 834326.
